I was born and raised in the suburbs of the Washington DC Metro area. Growing up, we always vacationed in Ocean City, MD. As the years went on, Ocean City just became too congested and over-commercialized for my parents as they often came home feeling like they needed a ‘real’ vacation. They had heard the rave reviews for years from some of their friends about how beautiful the Coastal Carolinas were so they finally packed us kids up and came down here for a week’s vacation to Brunswick County. They came back from the Carolinas hooked. The laid-back lifestyle, affordable living, beautiful beaches, southern hospitality, world class golf, and the year-round mild climate were just a few of the reasons why!

So, when they decided to retire from IBM after 30 years of employment, they knew that they would end up retiring down south somewhere. They then just had to take on the somewhat daunting task of figuring out exactly where they wanted to retire. They looked around in a few different areas (Hilton Head, Charleston, etc.), but it became clear to them that they belonged in Brunswick County as it had everything they always wanted. Now, fast forward 8 years, and they could not be happier with their decision

and, what’s not to be happy about? They are finally free of 4 kids (at least financially), cold winters, and the high taxes up north; and now they are living the life THEY always wanted to live; highlights of their new lifestyle include traveling, golfing, sunbathing, grand-parenting, playing cards, bowling, taking long strolls on the beach, bike riding, drinking too much wine, eating excessively, etc. I can honestly say that moving here to the Coastal Carolinas was the best decision my parents ever made! And, as a son who appreciates greatly everything that my parents sacrificed for us kids growing up, it’s been great to see them so happy in this next phase of their lives.
